Located 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, Claremont is best known for its tree-lined streets, historic buildings, and college campuses. Claremont is a vital, balanced community that provides a wide range of programs and services for all age groups, preserves a full range of housing opportunities, and supports a variety of thriving commercial and industrial centers. Our city values protecting the environment while encouraging appropriate development, and respects traditional values while embracing new ideas.
The City of Claremont will be holding a special meeting for the public to discuss restoration plans of the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park (CHWP). The City has assembled an experienced team composed of a biologist, a restoration ecologist, a regulatory specialist, and habitat restoration experts to assist in reaching a successful outcome.
The public is invited to meet the CHWP Restoration Team, hear the proposed plans to restore the disturbed area of the Wilderness Park, and to ask questions. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at the Joslyn Senior Center located at 660 N Mountain Avenue. The meeting will be held in the Oak Room beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The Claremont Village Trolley is here! Free service will begin Thursday, October 30. at 11am. Trolley service will run from 11am to 11pm Thursday -Saturday.
In January the City Council approved a three year pilot program to implement a trackless trolley system in the Village. The goal of the system is to promote economic development and ease of mobility for residents and visitors in the village. "The trolley will boost business in the Village by allowing visitors to Claremont to easily move from one side of the Village to the other in a quick convenient way, it enhances the shopping experience. The trolley will also allow people to leave their cars parked at the parking structure or in the Metrolink lot for a longer time and ride the trolley into the heart of the Village," said City Manager Jeff Parker.
There will be four bus stops on the route, which will be located at the Depot on First, the Metrolink parking lot, Bonita at Yale, and Oberlin Avenue across from the public plaza, completeing a 1.5 mile loop.
Final preparations are being made such as training the drivers on the trolley, finishing the trolley stops, and the final touches to the trolley.
The Trolley will be on display at the annual Village Venture on October 25th next to the City's booth on Second Street.
The Inaugural Ride will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 30. There will be a short ceremony, light refreshments and residents will have a chance to be one of the first to ride the trolley before it officially begins service at 11a.m. that same day.
If you have any questions about the trolley program please contact the Community Services Department at (909)399-5431.

The City of Claremont is currently developing a new plan to make the City more sustainable. The vision is to become a community that is environmentally healthy, socially balanced, and economically prosperous. The plan has a wide scope that is likely to affect all walks of life in the City. Our community believes we have reached a point where we must all begin making changes in order to ensure that future generations can have the opportunity to prosper.
The Draft Sustainable City Plan includes guiding principals, goals, numeric targets, and specific actions for reaching those goals and targets. The plan also includes a detailed implementation plan that calls for on-going participation from the public. One measure calls for the creation of a new community based non-profit to coordinate efforts of local citizens. Get involved!
